Weekend fun at the famous Clown Motel in Tonopah Nevada.
How was your weekend?
Ours was an adventure, to say the least. We took a six-hour drive to visit the famous clown motel between Reno and Las Vegas in Tonopah Nevada. It’s said to be one of the scariest motels. That may be due to the over 600 clowns that fill the check-in office and clown figures/ pictures that decorate the rooms or perhaps the fact that the motel is right next door to a historic cemetery filled with the graves of miners that died unpleasantly.
The kids and I spend a lot of time researching this Motel on the internet before our visit, I’m not sure if that was a good thing to do. We read and saw videos of the Clown Motel being haunted, Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures even took a trip there to investigate. After our research, we were pretty freaked out. If I had not promised my niece that I would attend her Birthday party (the reason we were going to the motel) then I would have backed out for sure.
Our drive was long but fun. We were in the middle of the desert with nothing really to see but wild donkeys and cactus. A few brothels if you are in to that, I had a car full of kids so that was not an option for me. 🙂 We finally made it, we pulled up to a run down motel with a parking lot full of cars and a “No Vacancy” sign. I was wondering how anyone would possibly want to stay here. We walked in to the office to check in and of course the kids all ran into the cemetery that was right next door. The office was full of clowns I think they said something like 650- Creepy! The owner and and a lady were in the office to help us check in, they were so sweet and helpful. The rooms were old and needed some updating but still pretty clean.
We had a 10 year old Birthday clown party in our clown room. It was a lot of fun! No ghost or clowns moving on their own, nothing weird at all. The cemetery next door was more sad than scary, so many lives laid to rest. Even babies . 🙁
I left understanding why this run down motel was so loved with a 4 out of 5 star rating. This is definitely a place to visit if you ever get the chance. You must dress like a clown for your visit.
Have you been to the Clown Motel? Please leave me a comment I would love to hear.
